Communing With EVE

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.
--Douglas Adams

Will you look at that?  I seem to have missed a couple of posts.  Guess my all-powerful posting queue didn't have as much material in it as I had hoped.  Well, let's take a look at what I've been up to and what I've missed.

Apologies may be in order.  Some real life matters tore me away from EVE for a bit, which meant this little blog didn't stay as maintained as I would like during that time.  You may notice that none of my recent posts have anything to do with me flying around in spaceships and getting blown up, and that would be because I haven't done any exploding in over a month.  Haven't exploded any other people in a slightly shorter period of time either.  Makes writing about the exciting (term used loosely) adventures of a Pirate a bit harder, unless I want to get all James Frey on you.

But enough of all that.  I'm back.  Unfortunately, the stories of people exploding don't come from a vacuum.  People actually have to explode for me to talk about them...which means I'm a little short on fodder for blog posts at the moment.  It's forced me to question whether my posts over the last month, which dealt very little with actual tales of Piracy, were a good idea or if I should have just left the Blog silent during that time.  Please feel free to weigh in through the comments on what you think.  Thankfully, there's some commentary on one of those posts already available.  Cue segue into something else EVE related.

If you don't already know about it, there's an EVE podcast over at Eve Commune.  One of the coolest segments of their podcast is a look at various blogs.  It's a convenient way to get some interesting recent blog posts served up to you.  They discuss the blog posts, and do a decent enough job of breaking down the highlights, and I usually find myself heading on over to those blogs to fill in the blanks after I listen to their Podcast.  Why am I telling you this?

EVE FNG was discussed during Episode 22, but this is actually the second time that they've brought up one of my posts.  The first was back in February in response to my Dog With a Bone post.  Their commentary on it was mostly what you'd expect.  "This guy is a genius."  "His writing style is awesome."  "Deserves the Pulitzer!"  Or something like that.  It's possible my memory of the discussion is a bit biased.

Episode 22 talked about the Recent Happenings post.  The commentary was again shining praise for my work.  "That thing is huge."  "It just keeps going."  "There's no way that thing is going to fit in my...RSS reader?" Wait, that's not right.  In a different context, those may have been compliments, but when discussing writing, not so much.

This is the part where I emo-rage about someone differing with my creative vision, right?  I scoff at your presumption and instead offer the guys from Eve Commune a hearty Thank You.  This is exactly the sort of feedback I had asked for last month.  In my own defense, I certainly considered breaking the whole thing up into multiple posts.  In the end, I decided that the topics differed enough from my normal theme that I didn't want to let it take over the blog for two weeks and drive all my readers away.  I reasoned that it would be easier for them to ignore one very long post instead of getting fed up of a number of smaller posts.  Perhaps I was mistaken in that logic, and if so, lesson learned.  Shorter posts in the future, and with that in mind, let's wrap this up, shall we?

I'll be getting back out in space this week, which hopefully leads to some kewl killz to talk about soon.  I have a shiny new Slicer sitting in my hangar that will surely be dying in a fire soon.  What do you mean I need Tech 2 Lasers for this ship?  Curse you Toterra!!!  Perhaps I'll be flying the Slicer soon™ instead of soon.

Regarrrds,

FNG

  2. Nothing at all wrong with long posts from my point of view. I guess some people think blogs are like comics, 3 sentences and the last one has to be a punchline. I'd much rather see an long in-depth post on something than a quick overview.
    Keep up the good work.
And get your arse back in a punisher and get some stuff exploded.
