Improve his shining tail,
And pour the waters of the Nile
On every golden scale!
How cheerfully he seems to grin,
How neatly he spreads his claws,
And welcomes little fishes in,
With gently smiling jaws!'

The halfway mark in this series examines the upcoming changes to the Punisher. If you're just joining us, go check out the thread for details and the previous posts to get caught up.
PUNISHER:
New bonuses: 5% bonus to Small Energy Turret damage and 5% bonus to armor resistances per skill level
Slot layout: 4 H, 2 M, 4 L, 3 turrets, no launchers
Fittings: 55 PWG, 124 CPU
Defense (shields / armor / hull) : 350 / 500 / 450
Capacitor (amount / recharge rate / cap per second): 425 / 212.5 s / 2
Mobility (max velocity / agility / mass / align time): 330 / 3.35 / 1047000 / 3.28 s
Drones (bandwidth / bay): 0 / 0
Targeting (max targeting range / Scan Resolution / Max Locked targets): 25km / 640 / 4
Sensor strength: 9 Radar
Signature radius: 37
The full breakdown of what's different:
New bonuses: 5% bonus to Small Energy Turret damage and 5% bonus to armor resistances per skill level
The Punisher's Armor Resistance bonus has remained intact, but the ship has swapped its 10% Bonus to Small Energy Turret use for a 5% Damage bonus per level.
Slot layout: 4 H, 2 M, 4 L, 3 turrets, no launchers
No change.
Fittings: 55 PWG, 124 CPU
Increased from 45 PWG and 115 CPU seeing more than 11 additional PG and CPU with max skills.
Defense (shields / armor / hull) : 350 / 500 / 450
A change from 391/469/391 sees a small drop in Shields that is more than made up for in Armor and Hull.
Capacitor (amount / recharge rate / cap per second): 425 / 212.5 s / 2
Down from 425/281/1.51 the Punisher gains a bit of recharge, but it's already impressive total amount remains the same.
Mobility (max velocity / agility / mass / align time): 330 / 3.35 / 1047000 / 3.28 s
Vastly improved from 287/4.21/1047000/3.28, the Punisher gains both speed and the agility to keep its align time constant.
Drones (bandwidth / bay): 0 / 0
No change.
Targeting (max targeting range / Scan Resolution / Max Locked targets): 25km / 640 / 4
Originally 25km/610/5 the Punisher sees buffed Targeting Speed, but one fewer Max Locked targets.
Sensor strength: 9 Radar
No change.
Signature radius: 37
Another very minor decrease from the previous 38.
Fittings
Of particular note with the fittings of the Punisher is that I really only know one way to fly it. With the limited Midslot count, I don't really advise trying to do anything but brawl in it. With that said, the fittings presented are all just variations on a theme and you can swap the Low and High slots of one for another with just some minor tweaking. The other thing to add is that the Punisher is often just barely shy of having enough PG to do something. To accommodate for that you're likely to see more Meta 4 modules just for the sake of fitting than with the others. I'm sure I'll hear about it later, but without further ado, here are the fittings.

I think your first fit, or other similar Abaddon inspired fits will become most rounded out. My preferred punisher atm is a buffer/rep hybrid. I'm wondering if it'll go the way of the dodo.
Also, CPU rigs will be introduced by then, which will open up more possibilities for the punisher and the slicer.
It does fit. And to any curious onlookers has stats like this:
Delete[Statistics - All V]
Effective HP: 17,411 (Eve: 14,828)
Tank Ability: 3.68 DPS
Shield Resists - EM: 12.50%, Ex: 56.25%, Ki: 47.50%, Th: 30.00%

I don't think I have to tell you just how bad those propulsion stats are. I don't think I could recommend this ship for anything more than bait, as it would have no survivability just jumping through gates and DPS/Damage Projection/Speed are so low that I don't think it could keep any ship on the field long enough to kill them. Then again, if you wanted to bait someone, any Cruiser hull would do the job better.
Your AC bleeder is very similar to the Punisher i run, however i recommend 150's. They allow you to hit the much faster Rifters and such-not while you are being webbed or just being slow as hell in general. You can also use cheaper mods instead of the M4's due to lower fitting reqs. Unless you are kiting, 150's will always be better vs frigs at close range orbit.
ReplyDeleteAlso, as Lunkwill mentioned, buffer/rep may be second-rate now due to the improved DPS laser fits have.
Love the LoLEHP fit btw. :D
I'm still chuckling over people using Bleeder AC Punisher fits. Hint: any frigate with a web will dictate range over you and just whittle you down whilst you curse how bad Barrage's projection is unbonused.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I could at least provide you with a good chuckle. While I think it's great that the Punisher finally saw a damage bonus to Lasers, I don't think it means the AC Punisher has no place anymore. The freed fittings alone give it unique advantages that a similar Laser fit doesn't have. As far as people dictating range and whittling you down, it just doesn't happen nearly as often in practice as one would think. I've won more fights against Rifters trying to do just that in an AC Punisher than I've ever lost. Usually because the Rifter pilot, so far into his own falloff, says. "My DPS isn't breaking his tank at this range, and he's doing almost no damage to me, I should dive in close to finish him." When they realize their mistake, it's just too late to do anything about it. In my personal experience, the added range of Scorch did more to drive people off than it actually managed to get anymore kills.
DeleteI'd really like to see your take on the Frigates after the change Sule, because I've always been much more of a Brawler than a Kiter, and I'm sure your take on the new potential of these ships would be a lot different than mine.
Problem is that any good Rifter pilot will just kill you with Barrage and you won't be able to do anything to counter them. Bad Rifters will still die, but being able to kill bad frigate pilots is the baseline for any frigate fit rather than the aim.
DeleteAt T1 frigate level, I mostly use brawling frigates since the DPS is too low to drop tackle fast once they're caught.
