Frigate Changes: Tormentor

I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.
--Lewis Carroll

Last, but hopefully no longer least, is the Tormentor.  The ship will be receiving a more dramatic face lift than any other frigate in Inferno, so let's get to it.

TORMENTOR:

New bonuses: 5% to small energy turret damage and 10% reduction to small energy weapon capacitor use per level
Slot layout: 3 H, 3 M, 4 L, 2 turrets, no launchers
Fittings: 49 PWG, 130 CPU
Defense (shields / armor / hull) : 350 / 450 / 400
Capacitor (amount / recharge rate / cap per second): 400 / 200 s / 2
Mobility (max velocity / agility / mass / align time): 320 / 3.05 / 1180000 / 3.37 s
Drones (bandwidth / bay): 10 / 10
Targeting (max targeting range / Scan Resolution / Max Locked targets): 40km / 620 / 4
Sensor strength: 9 Radar
Signature radius: 35

New bonuses: 5% to small energy turret damage and 10% reduction to small energy weapon capacitor use per level

A change from 5% bonus to cargo capacity and 20% bonus to mining laser yield per level. -60% mining laser capacitor use, which is basically a complete reworking of the frigate from a Mining to Combat role.

Slot layout: 3 H, 3 M, 4 L, 2 turrets, no launchers

Previously 3 H 1 M 3 L with 2 turrets and no launchers.  So an additional low slot and two more Mids.

Fittings: 49 PWG, 130 CPU

Big PG gains from 15 PG, and a slight decrease from 140 CPU.  Keeping in mind that Miner II's require 80 CPU, so this brings the Tormentor's CPU more in line with other combat frigs.

Defense (shields / armor / hull) : 350 / 450 / 400

Big gains across the board from 118 / 243/ 235.  It's really not even the same ship anymore.

Capacitor (amount / recharge rate / cap per second): 400 / 200 s / 2

Up from 125 / 93.75s / 1.33.
Mobility (max velocity / agility / mass / align time): 320 / 3.05 / 1180000 / 3.37 s

It's both faster and more agile from 301 / 3.1 / 1170000 / 5.2s

Drones (bandwidth / bay): 10 / 10

Up from the previous 5/5 giving the new Tormentor about 40 DPS of Drone Damage.

Targeting (max targeting range / Scan Resolution / Max Locked targets): 40km / 620 / 4

Big gains from 25km / 510 / 3, the Tormentor was originally planned to be the first of the "Bombardment" Frigates, but that idea was eventually scrapped.  It still sees one of the greatest locking ranges of any of the new Frigs, giving it the opportunity to make use of its drone control range.

Sensor strength: 9 Radar

Up from 5, bringing it in line with the other combat Frigs.

Signature radius: 35

Down (which is good) from 45.

Fittings

Since the Tormentor doesn't have combat fits that these are based on, it really is just like getting a new ship. Due to that, the ship fits shown here are quite experimental, meant to show what it's possible to get out of the ship as much as actually demonstrating fits that are actually useful.  I look forward to seeing what others come up with in the future.

  1. What about a kiting fit? I've been reading this blog off and on for about a year and subbing off and on to EVE for about the same amount of time. I think the game finally got me for good after having some success (FINALLY) with this ship.

So far I've killed 2 rifters, 1 merlin and a catalyst with many skirmishes with thrashers that ended in a draw. I even had a good fight against a dramiel but had to bail when a firefly or something joined in.

Good to see you're still writing. I play on re-reading your early posts to see if I can learn more from them now that I have had a few kills and a little more understanding of the game now.

    1. I've had some success kiting too. The ship you referred to was probably a firetail, which can be nippy little things, but well done on the fight up until they noobganged your t1.

I'm probably not entitled to much opinion on an ebil PvP blog though as I 1v1 and kill fleet stragglers in RvB.
